Eth 225 Week One Journal Entry

July 25, 1978

My name is Sara I am a 14 stratum old African American girl. I live in Georgia with my fuck off and father and 2 sisters. Today is precise hot and rainy so me and my sisters stayed inside today and helped our mformer(a) with the wash and chores around the house. I and my sisters are learning more or less Martin Luther King JR. this week in school. I breakt know much about my culture other then what my father has told me. He says that my dandy great great grandfather originated from Africa and was sent to live in the United States in the early 1700s as part of a buckle down trade. He says that my family lived as slaves until around 1820 when the virtue was passed making thralldom illegal.
My parents also explained to me that not too long ago the man was a very antithetical place. Black and white community were separated; my dad says this is called Segregation. They attended different school and stock-still in public places had separate seating. My father also told me that African American people were also not allowed to vote in the past. Its very hard for me to imagine a origination so divided or that someone would not alike(p) me solely based on the color of my skin. Now in school white and black people are to shake upher and I have many friends who are white as well.



There are still some people who do not like me and call me names but I try my best to ignore it because I know I have on the nose as much right to be here as they do. My mother tells me to ignore it because thats just how they were raised and to blame their actions on ignorance.
My Mother told me that after the law to abolish slavery went into effect my great grandfather settled here in Georgia and built a household of his own and this is where my family has been ever since. As I think about what my ancestors went through it saddens me. My father told me that most of his family members who were slaves on plantations were sold to different plantation owners and my family was split up.
